# 0011. Self-hosting is a product feature

- Status: Accepted
- Date: 2026-10-27

## Context

The more places OpenKedai can be deployed in a few minutes, the more people will try it. Complicated deployments put off the small shops and helpers we are building for.

## Decision

The server is one container, one process and one port (default `8080`) serving the API, WebSocket and back office, with one data folder (`/data`). It needs zero configuration: every setting has a safe default and an environment variable, and a first-run wizard in the browser does the rest. Images are built for `linux/amd64` and `linux/arm64`.

## Consequences

- Migrations run automatically on start, after an automatic backup; the server refuses to start against a newer database.
- Each deploy channel (Docker, install script, one-click PaaS, and later NAS and panel app stores) gets a short guide in `docs/self-hosting/`.
